novoline makes music with equipment that was manufactured in 1988 and 1989, controlled via midi by two atari sts. as a sequencer he is using an algorithmic composition program that is 25 years old. with this program he creates sequences that he modulates live by shifting numbers and settings while recording. the process is improvised and contains a good portion of randomly generated melodies and drums, carefully selected and combined by novoline. the result sounds a little like something between a dark 80’s sci-fi soundtrack and an endless marching new beat extended version.

killer 1975 gospel version of marlena shaws 1969 sister soul standard, a deep, socially conscious 45 asking some heavy questions about ghetto life set against a beautifully arranged, string heavy backdrop of low slung funk. a truly sought after rare groove, produced by the uks john abbey, the man who set up the legendary blues & soul magazine as well as the contempo, mojo and ichiban labels who worked with countless soul and funk artists throughout his lengthly career. quite tough to track down on 45, woman of the ghetto is now available again, dug out from the mighty sam records catalogue, the first release in their impressive discography now made available again on dinked 45 as it was presented in 1975, legitimately licensed, remastered and reissued in conjunction with sam records new york city.

this track has been in my computer since a little while when dj sotofett joined me here in amsterdam, to play an epic back to back at the school (amazing new club here). when i am doing a track, it could go to a lot of different directions as im jamming them for hours in my pipe studio. i sometimes could get lost. so i asked sotofett to join me in the studio to help to finish it. then we ended with those 2 versions of cham, which are, as often when i work with the sextags man, the result of live takes almost unedited. we also add some percussions from shadi khries and we recorded two versions of the same track within hours. one being bass driven with a lot of psychedelic noises and the other one more space-techno. our adventures continues, here is another slice of spaced out music.hope you ll enjoy.

frankfurt based producer, dj and music lover martin heimann presents his debut single salto on carry on 008. remaining faithful to its name, the small label puts out another piece of limited wax every once in a long while. enrooted in the soundscapes of 80s proto house the original version of salto is a thriving piece of octave liberation. consistent changes between harmonics break up the repetitive structure, while fm pads and the 303 are performing a little duet. the release is ennobled by two proper remixes from moon b (peoples potential unlimited) and jex opolis (good timin). while moon b keeps it bubblin’ with some extra analogue funk bounce and subtle italo dance floor energy, the b-side is jexi-fied with some embellishment to the cords, change in the bassline and a nice 808 snap. on top mr. opolis adds some mysterious but cheesy vocals samples that match perfect with the moody 80s orchestral stabs.

morah’s first release came from helena hauff’s return to disorder label and this time the athenian producer takes the same techno and electro sound and goes completely berserk for berceuse heroique. morah creates some huge waves of feedback on anarchy, which sounds like a techno version of metal machine music, then he takes the old school viewlexx sound and makes it even more confrontational, on you said no and impasse. looking back is a beautiful, melancholic - but still very dysfunctional - version of the death of a rave. one of the strongest points of this new producer is that his music sounds like the city of athens right now: raw energy mixed with manic depression and pessimism.
